Volunteers

Roles

Moderator (Reader / Judge) - The moderator shall read the questions, recognize the contestant who buzzes in on a question, and determine whether the question is correctly answered. The moderator shall be the final judge on a contested question or answer, but may choose to confer with the timer and scorekeeper. 
Timer - The timer shall operate the buzzer system and keep the elapsed time for answers to be provided 
Score Keeper - The scorekeeper shall keep a running score on the official score sheet (provided by the tournament host). (A volunteer may also keep a running score on a white board for teams to see.)
Tab Room - Collect and calculate team scores and seed the tournament.
Runner - Collect score sheets from competition rooms at the end of each round and turn sheets into Tab Room.  Support moderators if assistance is needed during or between rounds.
TJ Majors

Logistics

  • Pool play competition questions will be sent to the moderators as soon as available.  
  • Tournament questions will be provided at the competition once pool play is completed. (Tournament questions may be requested in advance if desired.)
  • Day of the competition
    • Competition will take place in TJ Majors
    • Arrive 30 minutes before the competition to become acquainted with the room and buzzer systems
    • Contact the tournament director or assistant if late arrival is anticipated
    • Check in on the 1st floor of TJ Majors upon arrival
    • Attend the review of rules with the teams in the opening session (TJ Majors 114)
    • Lunch will be provided to all volunteers if the competition lasts over the noon hour.

Room

TJ Majors 114 - Opening Session

Classrooms are located on all three floors. Upon entering the building the first floor is DOWN the steps. If assistance is needed, there is elevator access on the northwest corner of the building, with parking available there as well.
