Job Title:Food Service Worker

Reports to:Food Services Coordinator
Location:Nebraska City, NE
Minimum Requirements:High School Diploma
Preferred Requirements:Food service/nutrition training.
 Food service experience.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of nutrition and cooking techniques; procedures to effectively ensure high levels of sanitation in storage, preparation and service of food and inventory; and basic technology for documentation and communication.
  • Basic skills related to leadership; problem-solving, organization, time management, and communication; self-motivated and self-starter; flexible; and work cooperatively with others as a team player.
  • Ability to read and comprehend menus and recipes; operate a personal computer in order to complete all functions of the daily operations and communication related to the job position; follow written and oral directions; physical ability to lift and tolerate prolonged sitting and standing; and be flexible in work hours as required to fulfill duties.
  • Completion of required training including: State of Nebraska Defensive Driving Course; Suicide Prevention; other trainings as required/assigned; and those required and/or recommended by the State of Nebraska Nutrition Services.
  • Represent the Nebraska Center for the Education of Children Who Are Blind or Visually Impaired in a professional manner in dress, attitude, and actions.

Primary Function: Prepare and serve foods, following established methods, requirements and procedures and a regulated clean and safe environment at the Nebraska Center for the Education of Children Who Are Blind or Visually Impaired campus. Employees perform a variety of food production tasks on a regular basis.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Participate in meal preparation, cleanup, serving, dishwashing, and maintenance of storage areas.
  2. Assist in food service production for special events such as banquets, receptions, luncheons, dinners, and conferences..
  3. Prepare, season, and cook foods according to menus and recipes; prepare special dietary needs for students with disabilities.
  4. Prepare meals and clean dishes and the environment by using various industrial kitchen equipment.
  5. Assist with maintaining an inventory of equipment and supplies.
  6. Provide input to the supervisor regarding menu planning, dietary needs, and/or ideas for the betterment of the department.
  7. Following regulations, maintain sanitation of equipment and work area to include cleaning, mopping, laundry, etc.
  8. Participate in staff development opportunities when appropriate/required.
  9. Other assignments as assigned.
Salary:Minimum $15.00 per hour with full family benefits
Work days:185 days during the school year
