Mary Farris

Mary was born and grew up in Nebraska City, NE. She attended Peru State College where she received her BS in Sociology/Social Sciences, and a BA in Education. After living in Kansas City, MO and Omaha, NE she returned to Nebraska City and started working at the Nebraska School for the Visually Handicapped (NSVH) in 1982 as a dorm assistant, para educator and substitute teacher. In 1986 Mary began teaching full time at NSVH. She received her endorsement as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired in 1998, added an endorsement of Transition Specialist in 2006, and a Master’s degree in Special Education in 2008 from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. Mary is currently teaching at the Nebraska Center for the Education of Children who are Blind or Visually Impaired (NCECBVI) where she has been employed for 32 years.
