5074 - Emergency Medical Treatment
If a child becomes ill or is injured while at an ESU Program or while being supervised by a member of the ESU's staff, the staff member shall promptly render first aid and, when appropriate, summon rescue squad assistance. Staff will promptly notify a student's parent or guardian when a student needs medical attention.
The ESU is not qualified under law to comply with directives to physicians limiting medical treatment and will not accept such directives. ESU staff member will not honor "do not resuscitate/do not intubate" (DNR/DNI) orders. Parents/Guardians must arrange for all such requests with rescue squad and medical providers directly.
Any employee of ESU 4 who discovers that a parent/guardian wishes to limit their child's medical treatment shall promptly inform the ESU administrator or program administrator. The ESU or program administrator shall then promptly provide that parent/guardian with a copy of this policy.
